Novice Pilot Certificate
Requirements for Application or Renewal
An applicant must:
- be at least 16 years of age;
- meet the Medical Fitness requirements;
- meet the Fit and Proper requirements.
There is:
- no minimum flight time required; and
- no flight test required.
Privileges and Limitations
A Novice Pilot Certificate allows the holder to fly a microlight as pilot-in-command under the supervision of an Instructor for the purpose of gaining experience or regaining a higher certificate.
A Novice Pilot:
- must not carry passengers;
- must have all flights approved by a RAANZ Instructor;
- is not PIC during dual flights — the Instructor is PIC;
- must meet the required solo standards before first solo;
- requires a dual check at least every 90 days to continue solo flying;
- may operate under Remote Supervision where the required conditions are met.
The certificate is valid for a maximum of 1 year.
