Straight and Level

Aim:

To fly the gyro at a constant height, speed, direction, while maintaining balance.

Considerations:

The 4 forces acting on a gyro in flight

  • Weight
  • Lift
  • Thrust
  • Drag

Equilibrium

  • State of zero acceleration
  • Acceleration is change in speed and/or direction

Couples

  • Thrust/Drag - nose up
  • Lift/Weight - nose down
  • Increase power/thrust - nose up
  • Decrease power/thrust - nose down

Lift

  • Angle of Attack and airspeed

Power + Attitude = Performance

(RPM) + (horizon vs windscreen) = S&L
