65.14 Turbine Engine Exhaust Section

65.14.2 State the function of the exhaust section on a helicopter.

The exhaust section of a helicopter turboshaft engine is designed to discharge the exhaust gases safely while producing little or no useful jet thrust.

Most of the energy in the gas flow has already been extracted by the turbines to drive the compressor and helicopter rotor system. The exhaust system may diffuse or redirect the remaining gas flow to reduce residual thrust and prevent it from affecting the helicopter.
