The Flight Controls

Flight Control Surfaces

There are three primary flight controls on an aeroplane:

  • The elevator controls pitch about the lateral axis.
  • The ailerons control roll about the longitudinal axis.
  • The rudder controls yaw about the normal axis.

The primary flight control surfaces are movable surfaces attached to the aircraft by hinges.
