4.75 Airspace

4.75.2 State the rules pertaining to operating VFR in the various classes of airspace. CAR Part 91 & AIP ENR

VFR operations within controlled airspace are subject to the requirements of the particular airspace classification.

Class A airspace:

VFR flights are not permitted.

Class C airspace:

A VFR pilot must:

• obtain an ATC clearance before entering;
• maintain two-way radio communication with the responsible ATC unit, unless otherwise authorised; and
• comply with ATC clearances and instructions.

ATC provides:

• separation between IFR and VFR flights;
• traffic information about other VFR flights; and
• traffic avoidance advice on request.

Class D airspace:

A VFR pilot must:

• obtain an ATC clearance before entering;
• maintain two-way radio communication with the responsible ATC unit, unless otherwise authorised; and
• comply with ATC clearances and instructions.
