On the Ground
ATIS
Listen to the ATIS before you call the tower.
Take note of the:
- letter
- QNH
- runway
- wind
Call when you are ready to taxi.
Do not enter the manoeuvring area until you have a clearance to enter.
The Manoeuvring area is
- that part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off and landing of aircraft and
- for the surface movement of aircraft associated with take-off and landing;
- but does not include areas set aside for loading, unloading, or maintenance of aircraft:
The manoeuvring area is defined on the Ground Movements chart as a "dash dot dot" line.
At the airfield you will see the dashed lines painted in pink.
VFR Departure Procedures
Departure procedures are used to reduce radio tranmissions.
eg.
Tower: "ABC, Make a Hunters Creek Departure"
ABC: "Make a Hunters Creek Departure, ABC"
