On the Ground

ATIS

Listen to the ATIS before you call the tower.

Take note of the:

  • letter
  • QNH
  • runway
  • wind

Call when you are ready to taxi.

Do not enter the manoeuvring area until you have a clearance to enter.

The Manoeuvring area is

  • that part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off and landing of aircraft and
  • for the surface movement of aircraft associated with take-off and landing;
  • but does not include areas set aside for loading, unloading, or maintenance of aircraft:

The manoeuvring area is defined on the Ground Movements chart as a "dash dot dot" line.

At the airfield you will see the dashed lines painted in pink.

VFR Departure Procedures

Departure procedures are used to reduce radio tranmissions.

Tower: "ABC, Make a Hunters Creek Departure"
