4.50.2 Explain the requirements for obtaining and considering relevant information prior to flight. CAR Part 91

91.217 Preflight action

Before commencing a flight, the pilot-in-command must obtain and become familiar with all information concerning that flight.

This includes:

  • current meteorological information, where practicable;
  • fuel requirements;
  • alternatives available if the planned flight cannot be completed;
  • any known or likely traffic delays notified by ATS;
  • the status of the communication and navigation facilities intended to be used;
  • current aerodrome conditions and runway lengths at aerodromes intended to be used; and
  • any take-off and landing distance data in the aircraft flight manual.

 

Multi-engine aircraft

For aircraft powered by two or more engines, the pilot-in-command must also be familiar with:
