14.54.2 Describe the construction of typical fixed landing skids on a light helicopter.

Construction of Fixed Landing Skids (Light Helicopter)

  • Consist of two longitudinal skid tubes running parallel beneath the fuselage
  • Connected by cross tubes attached to the airframe
  • Skid tubes are usually made of steel or aluminium alloy
  • Often fitted with wear shoes on the underside to reduce abrasion
  • May include dampers or flexible cross tubes to absorb landing loads
