Circuit Considerations
This briefing covers the aspects of a normal circuit that were deferred during the Circuit Introduction to prevent overwhelming the student.
Objectives
- To further advance circuit training.
- To implement touch-and-go and go-around procedures.
- To apply the terminology and procedures used when a deviation from the normal circuit is necessary.
Considerations
Touch and Go
The touch and go is a procedure that involves a normal landing followed by an immediate take-off without stopping or braking. This method allows for more practice circuits and landings, as it eliminates the need to stop and taxi back to the holding point.
It should only be conducted on runways that are sufficiently long, assuming the gyroplane has landed in the appropriate area.
Unless there is an emergency requiring immediate power application, the landing phase should be completed and the gyroplane under control before increasing power for the ‘go’ phase.
Go-Around or Overshoot
At any point after the approach has begun, the pilot may choose, or be directed by ATC, to execute a go-around.
A go-around means discontinuing the approach, applying full power, establishing the appropriate attitude and airspeed, climbing away and following the circuit pattern to position for another approach and landing.
