4.14 Competency, Currency and Recency

4.14.2 State the recent experience requirements of a PIC, by day and by night, who is the holder of a private pilot licence. CAR Part 61

A Private Pilot Licence holder must meet recent experience requirements before acting as pilot-in-command of an aircraft carrying a passenger.

The requirements are different for day flight and night flight.

(b) private pilot – day flight:

A PPL holder must not act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft carrying a passenger during the day unless, within the 90 days immediately before the flight, the pilot has completed one of the following in an aircraft of the same type:

• at least 3 take-offs and 3 landings by day as pilot-in-command; or
• a satisfactory demonstration of day take-off and landing competence to an appropriately qualified Category A or B flight instructor; or
• a satisfactory demonstration of competence for the issue of the appropriate pilot licence under CAR Part 61.
