Causes of Motion Sickness
Motion sickness, or airsickness, is caused by prolonged movement which creates conflicting information between the body's orientation systems.
The brain may receive different information from the:
- eyes;
- inner ear; and
- body senses.
This mismatch can cause:
- nausea;
- a general feeling of being unwell;
- pale skin;
- cold sweating;
- vomiting; and
- occasionally hyperventilation.
Motion sickness is more common in:
- student pilots;
- inexperienced passengers; and
- people who are anxious or stressed.
