4.10 Requirements for Licences and Ratings
4.10.2 State the requirements for holding a pilot’s licence. CAR Part 61
A pilot must hold an appropriate and current pilot licence for the aircraft and operation being conducted.
61.5 Requirement for pilot licence and ratings
(a) Pilot licence – New Zealand aircraft operating in New Zealand:
A pilot flying a New Zealand registered aircraft in New Zealand must hold one of the following:
- a New Zealand pilot licence issued under CAR Part 61; or
- a foreign pilot licence with a New Zealand validation permit issued under rule 61.9; or
- an Australian pilot licence, if it is accepted under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997.
(b) Pilot licence – New Zealand aircraft operating outside New Zealand:
A pilot flying a New Zealand registered aircraft outside New Zealand must hold one of the following:
