Diversion Procedures

Pilots sometimes need to divert due to weather, airspace restrictions, or ATC instructions.

Following a special procedure for a safe diversion and track rejoin while adjusting the ETA is crucial.

Using an equilateral triangle for the diversion method is helpful due to its equal sides and angles.

Since each angle in an equilateral triangle measures 60° and each leg is of equal length, flying each leg for the same amount of time can help in calculating an amended Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) effectively.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Divert and Maintain New Heading

Alter your heading by 60º in the required direction to divert around the obstacle.

Note the new heading and maintain it for a suitable time to ensure you stay clear of the obstacle.
