14.62 Climbing Flight

14.62.2 Define:

(a) rate of climb;

  • The vertical speed at which the helicopter gains altitude
  • Usually expressed in feet per minute (ft/min)

 

Summary:
Rate of climb = height gained per unit time.

 

(b) angle of climb.

  • The angle between the flight path and the horizontal

 

Summary:
Angle of climb = steepness of the climb relative to the horizon.

 

 

14.62.4 State the effect of wind on angle of climb.
