14.48 EFIS Instrument Displays
14.48.2 Describe the function and operation of a typical EFIS cockpit display system.
EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System)
Function:
- Replaces traditional instruments with electronic displays
- Provides integrated flight, navigation, and system information
Operation:
- Receives data from sensors and avionics (pitot-static, gyros, GNSS, etc.)
- Processes and displays information on screens such as:
- Primary Flight Display (PFD): attitude, airspeed, altitude, heading
- Multi-Function Display (MFD): navigation, maps, weather, traffic
- Displays are configurable and combine multiple data sources into a clear format
Summary:
EFIS integrates data from aircraft systems and presents it on electronic displays, improving situational awareness and ease of interpretation.
14.48.4 Describe the function of the:
(a) air data computer;
Function:
- Processes data from the pitot-static system and temperature sensors
- Calculates key air data parameters
Outputs include:
- Airspeed (IAS/TAS)
- Altitude
- Vertical speed
- Outside Air Temperature (OAT)
