64.22 Turbine Engine Starting; Ignition; Relight; and Shutdown
64.22.2 Describe general procedures for starting and shutting down a turbine engine.
The general procedures for starting and shutting down a turbine engine are as follows:
Starting a turbine engine:
1. Ensure that all pre-start checks have been completed, including checking the oil level, fuel level, and engine controls.
2. Turn on the aircraft's electrical power and avionics systems.
3. Turn on the engine ignition and ensure that the engine is in the correct position.
4. Engage the starter and monitor the engine instruments to ensure that the engine is starting properly.
5. Monitor the engine instruments during the start process, including oil pressure, fuel pressure, and electrical systems.
6. Once the engine has started, allow it to warm up to the manufacturer's recommended temperature.
Shutting down a turbine engine:
1. Reduce the engine to idle speed and allow it to run at idle for several minutes to cool down.
