SLOW FLIGHT

AIM:

To bring airspeed back to zero, allow some loss of altitude and recover to cruising speed.

CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Gyro is controllable without forward airspeed.
  • It does not stall in this situation.
  • A loss of height will occur unless strong wind exists.
  • Always perform into wind
  • Gyro is being operated 'behind the power curve", that is, full engine power will not overcome rotor created drag
  • Stick movements are very small and should be minimised.
  • Use rudder to maintain direction
