02 Preparation and Post-Flight Actions
Aim
To ensure that both the pilot and the gyroplane are fully prepared, legally compliant, airworthy, and safely managed before flight through proper planning, documentation, inspections, and correct engine handling, and that all required post-flight actions are carried out, including shutdown, securing, and accurate recording, so the aircraft is left in a safe, serviceable condition and ready for the next flight.
Motivation
Thorough preparation and planning play a critical role in flight safety, as a significant proportion of gyroplane accidents and incidents can be traced to poor preparation, inadequate planning, incomplete inspections, or missed checks. A consistent and methodical approach to pre- and post-flight procedures is a key defence against mechanical failures, poor decision-making, and avoidable errors, while professional discipline on the ground builds strong habits, improves situational awareness, and directly contributes to safer outcomes in the air.
Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:
- Prepare themselves and the gyroplane for flight
- Conduct thorough planning and inspections
- Operate within legal and operational requirements
- Complete all required post-flight checks and documentation
