4.80 Responsibilities of Pilots
4.80.2 State the requirement for the notification of accidents. CAR Part 12
12.51 Notification of accident
The pilot-in-command of an aircraft involved in an accident must notify the Civil Aviation Authority:
- as soon as practicable.
If the pilot-in-command cannot make the notification because they are:
- injured;
- deceased; or
- aboard an aircraft that is missing,
the aircraft operator must notify the Authority.
The initial notification must include, where known:
- the date and time of the accident;
- the nature of the accident;
- the aircraft type, nationality, and registration;
- the names of the aircraft owner and operator;
- the position or last known position of the aircraft;
- the name of the pilot-in-command;
- the type of operation;
- the last point of departure;
- the intended destination;
- the weather conditions;
- the number of people on board;
- the number of people killed or seriously injured; and
- details of damage to the aircraft.
