22.32 Performance
22.32.2 Define:
(a) Take-off distance required (TODR), take-off safety speed, and screen height (or barrier);
- Take-off distance required (TODR) refers to the distance needed for an aircraft to accelerate on the runway and become airborne.
- Take-off safety speed is the minimum speed at which an aircraft can safely take off and climb after an engine failure.
- Screen height, or barrier, is the height of an obstacle or structure that an aircraft must clear during takeoff or landing.
(b) Take-off distance available (TODA) and clearway;
Take-off distance available (TODA) refers to the total length of runway available for an aircraft to accelerate, take off, and clear any obstacles.
It includes:
- the runway length plus
- the length of any clearway.
A clearway is an area beyond the runway that is specifically cleared and maintained to provide an obstacle-free path during takeoff.
(c) Take-off run available (TORA);
Take-off run available refers to the length of the runway declared by the aerodrome operator as available and suitable for the ground run of an aeroplane taking-off.
